Jimmy Abbott is a priest serving Trinity Episcopal Church on Galveston Island.
From 2012 to 2021, Jimmy served Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Spring, Texas. During his tenure, the parish experienced a time of transformation as the building project for a new church was completed, new missions were planted, new ministries launched, and as the church grew substantially.
Jimmy earned his Bachelor of Arts in History with honors from the University of Texas at Austin. While attending UT, Jimmy discerned a call to ordained ministry. After graduation from college, Jimmy enrolled in the Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia and earned his Master of Divinity with honors in May 2010. While in seminary, he served as a seminarian at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Alexandria, Virginia. His master’s thesis, “A Loud and Ungrounded Noise: the antiwar movement in the Episcopal Church during the Vietnam War,” explored this critical time in the history of the United States of America and the Episcopal Church.
Jimmy served as the Assistant Rector at St. Alban’s in Waco, TX from 2010 to 2012 where he worked with the young adults, youth, and taught a variety of education classes.
As an active member of the Spring community, Jimmy serves as a mentor at Salyers Elementary School and has been active on the Klein ISD Leadership Coalition.
Jimmy and his wife, Maggie, were married in 2012. Maggie has a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Texas Woman’s University. She works as the Director of Outreach for the Houston Area Parkinson’s Society where she teaches classes for clients with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers. Their daughter, Lydia, attends school in Klein ISD. She is a Brownie in Girl Scouts and enjoys gymnastics.
In his free time, Jimmy enjoys playing golf, reading, and listening to music from his vinyl collection.
